Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

What is pelvic physiotherapy?
The pelvic physiotherapist specializes in examining and treating complaints in the abdominal, lower back, pelvic and pelvic floor areas of men, women and children. At Fysio.com our therapist, Fleur Segeren, specializes in these complaints. Complaints that have been treated by a pelvic physiotherapist have everything to do with complaints in the areas of relief, urination, sexual functioning, subsidence problems, pain and cleanliness.

For which complaints can pelvic physiotherapy be used?
Urination:

  • Unintentional loss of urine
  • Urinating very often
  • Not able to control urine urgence
  • Recurrent bladder infections
  • Bladder pain
  • Not able to urinate
  • Bedwetting

    Relieving:

  • Hemorrhoids
  • Pain in the anus or anus cramp
  • Constipation

Sexuality:

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Pain during sex (dyspareunie)
  • Not being able to make love (vaginism)

  • Pain at the perineum

Other complaints:

  • Subsidence complaints
  • Chronic abdominal pain
  • Heavy pressure feeling vaginal or anal
  • Pelvic pain during pregnancy
  • Pelvic pain, low back pain, groin pain not sports-related
  • Guidance before and after operations in the abdominal and pelvic area

All of the above symptoms can come from a malfunctioning pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles have an important role in urinating, relieving, sexual function and supporting function of the upper organs. The muscles can be too weak or too tense, so that they do not tighten at the right moment, maintain pain or they do not provide sufficient support. Not everyone feels the effect of these muscles, so that conscious control sometimes does not seem possible.

How does the treatment work?
During the intake at Fysio.com, your complaints are carefully mapped out. Fleur uses questionnaires that give a lot of insight into the complaints. In order to get a complete picture of your complaints, an internal investigation can be carried out in consultation with you. Fleur compiles a treatment plan with you.

Who is it for and what can you expect?
Pelvic physiotherapy is suitable for anyone who has complaints in the areas of relief, urination, sexual functioning, subsidence, pain and cleanliness. After intake and research you will receive specific exercises, practical advice and explanations. This can include, for example, breathing exercises, toilet behavior, exercises for the pelvic floor and stabilization of pelvis and lower back.

Referral and reimbursement
Pelvic physiotherapy is accessible with or without referral and via direct access to physiotherapy (DTF). Pelvic physiotherapy is reimbursed from the supplementary insurance. If you are referred by your doctor for loss of urine to the pelvic physiotherapist, you are entitled to 9 treatments from the basic package.

In the case of urine loss or a chronic indication, a referral from a general practitioner or specialist is mandatory. If you have any doubts about this, please contact Fleur Segeren via fleur@fysio.com.

Pelvic Floor Therapy is covered by the Dutch Health care insurances since it is part of a physical therapy treatment.
